Convincing 3D Mock-Ups in 1 Minute

Daniela Zerlauth

I am incredibly fond of Photoshop Actions. My time is precious, and I always welcome tools that help me save it. I believe other designers feel the same way.

Psdcovers.com is a website that provides free Photoshop Actions for 3D conversion for commercial use. Practically every imaginable object is on offer. From folders, crisp packets and mugs to iPads, iMacs and Blu-ray boxes, it has everything a designer's heart desires. The library is continuously updated and expanded.

Step 1:

Load the Action into Photoshop

Step 2:

Expand the Action and execute STEP 1

Step 3:

Place the design on the template as instructed by the text. Multiple layers can easily be created

Step 4:

STEP 2 – Add Color! Sit back and enjoy the show!

The result contains multiple layers, making it further editable and flexible. For greater realism, subtle noise and blur effects can be applied.

Please note: The Actions were created with the English version of Photoshop. Sometimes, when used with a different language version, there can be stoppages and errors because the names differ! For example: The "Background" layer is not available / The XY Copy layer is not available. This happens particularly with the iPad variations (JESUSPAD). Don't worry, this usually doesn't cause any problems. Just cheerfully click "Continue" and everything will be fine. Furthermore, you sometimes have to confirm the configuration of the layer styles before the Action can proceed. Unfortunately, some Actions, such as the milk packaging ones, cannot be used at all in the German version of Photoshop. However, most work perfectly and trying them out is enjoyable.

Alexandra Hundsdorfer, also a designer at Zensations, provided me with graphics from her diploma thesis, which she completed in 2013 together with Magdalena Schönhofer. In a fit of euphoria, I downloaded almost all the Actions one rainy afternoon (they might be gone tomorrow!). So, if the internet apocalypse ever happens, I'll be prepared.

Why a strong Corporate Design is worth more than just a logo

Imagine meeting someone who speaks with a different voice every time. Sometimes high, sometimes low, sometimes loud, sometimes soft – how would you react? You’d probably distrust that person. This is exactly how customers feel about companies that lack a clear Corporate Design. Sometimes the brand appears colourful and loud, then suddenly cool and serious, here playful, there sober. The result: confusion, lack of recognition, and often a loss of trust.

After all, what’s the point of having so many website visitors if no one converts? Increasing the conversion rate and optimizing it is the […]
