Under the hood

How the GEO & AEO check works.

The check is not a gut-feeling scoring system. It fetches your page live, evaluates 55 individual signals and backs every result with the evidence it found. For each point you see what was measured, why it matters and what you can specifically change.

  1. 01

    Check and secure the URL

The entered address is normalized and checked for public reachability. Internal network addresses, credentials in the URL and unusual ports are rejected. Name resolution is checked in advance so that only genuine public websites are fetched.

  2. 02

    Read and respect robots.txt

The robots.txt is fully parsed, including groups, wildcards and the most specific matching rule. If a website blocks our check crawler, the check stops instead of bypassing the block.

  3. 03

    Fetch and measure the page

The HTML is loaded with our own redirect tracking, size limit and timeout. Response time, document size, status code and response headers are recorded along the way. JavaScript is deliberately not executed, so it is visible what is delivered without scripts.

  4. 04

    Collect additional sources

In parallel, the XML sitemap named in robots.txt or the common default location, and a possible llms.txt, are fetched. Both show how well a website makes its content accessible to machines.

  5. 05

    Analyze the content

Navigation, footer, scripts and hidden areas are removed. From the remaining main content, a heading tree, paragraphs, lists, tables, images, links, structured data and text metrics such as sentence length or words per section are derived.

  6. 06

    Score with weights

Every signal gets a status, a weight and a priority. From this a GEO score, an AEO score and three sub-scores for content, structure and technology are calculated. Signals that cannot be checked are excluded from the calculation.

Technology and access

Can a machine even load, read and interpret the page?

  • Reachability, status code and redirect chain
  • Indexing via meta robots and X-Robots-Tag, including snippet restrictions
  • Access rules for Googlebot, OAI-SearchBot, GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended, Applebot and CCBot
  • HTTPS, canonical tag and whether it matches the checked URL
  • XML sitemap, llms.txt, response time, document size and text share
  • Structured data: entity types, page types, sameAs references, invalid JSON blocks
  • Open Graph, Twitter Card, viewport, hreflang and URL quality

Structure and orientation

Is the content organized so that individual sections can be cited?

  • Main title, section logic and jumps in heading level
  • Words per section as a measure of retrievable content blocks
  • Semantic regions such as main, article and section
  • Internal linking and how meaningful the link texts are
  • Anchor links to subheadings and navigation path
  • Language markup and image alt texts

Content and answer quality

Does the page answer real questions in a way an AI can adopt?

  • Readable text without JavaScript and depth of content
  • Direct answer right after the main title and compact answer paragraphs
  • Visible customer questions and question-and-answer content
  • Lists, steps and tables as answer-friendly formats
  • Brand named in the intro text, verifiable figures and sentence lengths
  • Recency, responsibility, contact details and expert sources

How the scores are calculated

Every signal gets a weight between 2 and 12. Signals that are fully met count in full, ones that could be improved count at half weight, and obstacles count as zero. The GEO score uses all checkable signals. The AEO score uses the subset that determines answer quality: direct answers, questions, formats, depth, recency, entity clarity, evidence and responsibility. You also see three sub-scores for content, structure and technology.

What the check deliberately does not do

It does not run JavaScript, does not query AI systems live and does not measure actual mentions in ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google AI. It does not save any history and does not build a database of your URLs. Good scores are a solid foundation, but not a guarantee of being mentioned in an AI answer.

Understand. Answer. Improve.

What this GEO & AEO check actually tells you.

GEO prepares content for generative search systems. AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) adds self-contained answers, genuine customer questions, clear steps and verifiable sources. Helpful content and an accessible website remain the foundation.

This check examines one URL, the delivered HTML and robots.txt. It does not measure actual mentions or answer placements in ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google AI. High scores do not guarantee inclusion in an AI answer.

How are the scores calculated?

The GEO score weights all checked foundations. The AEO score focuses on direct short answers, visible customer questions, question-and-answer pairs, lists or steps, responsibility and sources. A total of 55 transparent signals are checked, from crawler access and structured data to response time, sitemap, sentence length, recency and sources. Unknown signals are excluded; editorial text patterns are heuristics, not confirmed ranking factors.

What happens to my URL?

The server fetches the public page you enter and its robots.txt. There is no analysis database or saved history. Please do not enter confidential links or URLs with access tokens.

FAQ

GEO, AEO and this check

What is the difference between GEO and classic SEO?

GEO prepares content so generative search systems can find, understand and cite it. Classic SEO focuses on positions in the search result list. Both share the same technical foundation, but GEO emphasizes direct answers, sources and entity clarity.

What does AEO mean?

AEO stands for Answer Engine Optimization. The goal is to give a self-contained, understandable answer to a real user question – not just a page full of keywords.

Can this check guarantee that ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini will mention my website?

No. The check only assesses technical and content foundations. Whether and how a page appears in a specific AI answer depends on many factors that no one can reliably predict from the outside.

What happens to my URL?

The public page you enter is fetched live and evaluated immediately. There is no saved history, no analysis database and no sharing with third parties.

What is included in the paid detailed report?

A prioritized action plan with concrete steps, text templates for your website, a PDF to pass on to an agency or freelancer, and delivery within two business days after receiving all required details.
